2020 was the first year that Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing offered a t-shirt (2020 shirts are still available here.) For 2021 we want that to become more! So, for next years t-shirt, we are going to hold a 2021 Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing - Protect Our Waters T-Shirt design contest. Readers of the blog and members of the community will be allowed to submit their artwork for consideration. Finalists will be selected and a vote will be held to choose the final 2021 Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing - Protect Our Waters T-Shirt design for 2021.
On top of that, a portion of the sales from each and every shirt will be donated to help protect Texas' great rivers. Your voice will also help choose the organization/charity that supports Texas rivers, where the proceeds get donated.
Below are the T-Shirt contest rules and guidelines.
Contest Rules and Guidelines
Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing is accepting submissions for the 2021 Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing - Protect Our Waters T-Shirt Design Contest between November 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020. The winning design will be printed on the official 2021 Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing - Protect Our Waters T-Shirt to be released in early in 2021 (sales will continue throughout 2021.)

T-Shirt Design Contest Prizes
1st Place – Design will be featured on the official 2021 Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing - Protect Our Waters T-Shirt, and the artists and design will receive recognition be promoted on the Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing website as well as on social media. The winner will also receive a free 2021 Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing - Protect Our Waters T-Shirt.
2nd-5th Place -The artists and designs will be recognized and promoted on the Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing website.
Design Rules and Guidelines
Design must be wholly original. By submitting a design, you are guaranteeing that you hold original rights to everything in it, that it may be printed on distributed t-shirts, and that it does not contain any copyright material.
Your design should be inspired by Texas' rivers and Texas freshwater fly fishing.
Design will appear on the front of a solid-color shirt.
Design will be printed in up to three solid colors. Gradients and transparencies cannot be incorporated.
Designs will be judged on the following criteria:
- Concept/originality
- Captures spirit of the Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing and Texas Rivers.
- Striking and memorable design
- Visibility – eye-catching and visible from a reasonable distance
- Completeness of design – must be ready for print
- Feasibility/must be easy to reproduce
Design submission should be saved to 300 dpi to produce a quality output. Acceptable files are high resolution JPGs, TIFFs, AI and EPS files.
If you win, you will be required to provide the original design in a high res format that is compatible with Photoshop, Illustrator or another professional design program.
It’s recommended to render your design in Adobe Illustrator or a similar design program. Entries should include the original file, a vector-based EPS file, a high resolution JPEG or PDF file.
A conceptual design may be submitted instead of a fully rendered design. All conceptual designs must be spelled out using highly descriptive language to fully articulate the design. A sketch of the design must be submitted along with the description. Select designs may be chosen by Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing for rendering by a graphic artist.
Eligibility: The contest is open to anyone, 18 years of age and older, that loves fly fishing in Texas and protecting our Texas rivers. If you are under the age of 18 you may still create and submit a design, but it must be submitted on your behalf by a parent or guardian.
Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing will have first printing rights to the winning design. By submitting you agree that if your design wins, it can be used by the Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing on a t-shirt and on other promotional items, including the Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing website, Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing Facebook group, other social media, and marketing and public relations materials. The winner and image of the design will be recognized on our website and on social media.
Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing reserves the right to make adjustments to all entries, including colors of the design and the shirt if necessary for t-shirt printing.
Submission Rules and Guidelines
Entries must be emailed by December 31, 2020 to texasfreshwaterflyfishing@gmail.com
All entry emails should have the subject line “2021 T-shirt Design Contest + Designer Name.”
Include your name, mailing address and telephone number.
How Winners Are Selected
Five (5) Finalists will be selected by Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing staff.
Voting: The finalists will be presented to the Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing community and the overall winner determined by a vote of the community. The a single runoff vote will break a tie.
Designs will be judged on the following criteria:
- Concept/originality
- Captures spirit of the Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing and Texas Rivers.
- Striking and memorable design
- Visibility – eye-catching and visible from a reasonable distance
- Completeness of design – must be ready for print
- Feasibility/must be easy to reproduce
How Winners Will Be Notified
Winners will be notified by email at the close of selection process, via the information provided during entry. At the sole discretion of Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing, disqualification, forfeiture and the selection of an alternate winner may result from any of the following:
- Winner's failure to respond to notification within three (3) business days after its transmission.
- The return of an email notification as undeliverable after three (3) attempts.
- Winner's failure to provide original design files.
Upon contacting a winner and determining that they have met all eligibility requirements of the contest, such individual will be declared a "winner" of the contest via social media and on the Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing website.
Submission Agreement
To release the rights to your design to Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing for the use of the 2021 Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing - Protect Our Waters T-Shirt and other promotional items, including, but not limited to: the Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing website, social media and marketing materials.
That Texas Freshwater Fly Fishing reserves the right to make adjustments to the winning designs if necessary.
That winners are responsible for all taxes associated with prizes.
To abide by all contest rules, agreements and guidelines.
