Mason County WinterFisch is a family-oriented winter recreational activity for Mason County residents and visitors. WinterFisch is Mason County’s participation in the TPWD’s statewide Winter Trout Fishing Program that occurs annually at over 100 locations across Texas. WinterFisch is entering its fourth season and is proving to be very popular. This season WinterFisch will run from December 5th, 2020 through March 14th, 2021.

WinterFisch features a Tagged-Fish Prize Segment where fishers can redeem tags for prizes valued from $15-$50, and then be automatically entered into a Grand Prize Raffle at the conclusion of WinterFisch.

Mason County and the Town of Mason offer ample lodging and dining options in a gorgeous Hill Country setting. More information can be found at https://masontxcoc.com.

The trout fishing location is in Mason County 8 miles south of the town of Mason at the James River Crossing of the Llano River (Hwy. 2389). This site was chosen for its suitable habitat and also for its ease of public access. A total of 2500 trout are released in two phases, one in December and one in January of each year.

Mason County WinterFisch also includes a promotional event in December, called the WinterFisch Celebration to celebrate the fishing opportunity and the Llano River. The WinterFisch Celebration includes fishing instruction, campfire with music, and a Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstration as well as camp side cooking of caught fish. This season the WinterFisch Celebration will happen on December 5th from 12-5pm.
