"When peace like a river, atendeth my way." -Horatio Spafford, It Is Well With My Soul.
I sat in the pew this Sunday singing these lyrics, contemplating rivers; how they undoubtedly bring peace. I once wrote about Thin Places, places where the division between Heaven and Earth is so thin you can feel a spiritual presence. These may be different to everyone, but I find that a remote run of river can drift you to a thin place.
Part of this is the solitude of a river. Rivers are a network, yet independent; fragile, yet strong; tamed, yet wild. My mind gets lost in the solitude and the random, rhythmic flow of the waters.
Rivers are a fountain of life, for all of God's creatures. A source that we should revere, preserve, and perpetuate.
